8Bit lead the BGMI Showdown by 16 going into the final day, and ten more points put them on match point

8Bit lead the BGMI Showdown by 16 going into the final day, and ten more points put them on match point

Team 8Bit finish the second day of the BGMI Showdown Grand Finals where they started it, top of the table. They have 116 points after 12 matches, 16 clear of K9 Esports on 100, with Blitz Epigrotive Gaming a point further back on 99.

It also sets the bar for everyone else. Under the format for Sunday’s final day, the leader’s total after match 12 plus 10 points sets the match-point line, so the target for everyone in Hyderabad is 126. 8Bit are ten points from it. K9 need 26.

Six matches, six different winners

Saturday followed Friday’s map pattern of one game on Rondo, three on Erangel and two on Miramar, and nobody won twice. The six chicken dinners went to Team Outrage, Gladiators Esports, Revenant XSpark, 8Bit, Blitz and Soul.

For 8Bit it was a third win of the finals, after their two on Miramar on Friday. Blitz now have two, and no one else has more than one.

8Bit scored 53 points on Saturday to K9’s 43 and Blitz’s 39. K9 started the day three points behind Blitz and finished it one ahead, in second.

Soul and Revenant climb

Two of the big movers came up from the bottom half. Soul had 34 points after the first day. They scored 54 on Saturday and are now fourth on 88.

Revenant XSpark were last after Friday with 14. Their win was part of a 53-point day, which has taken them up to 67, and out of the bottom four.

Outrage made up ground too. They were seventh on 42 after day one and are now sixth on 85, level on points with Welt Esports in fifth.

The race below the title

The champions get the PUBG Mobile Global Championship spot, but the top six all qualify for the BGMI International Cup, and that race is tighter than the one at the top. Meta Ninza are seventh on 77, eight points behind Outrage and Welt. Gladiators are eighth on 73 and Team Apex Gaming, the semi-final winners, ninth on 70.

Two of the stronger sides from the semi-finals are out of contention for the title. Nebula Esports have 47 points and GodLike Esports 45. Both would need something like 80 points from six matches just to reach 126.

How Sunday works

Once a team reaches 126 it becomes match-point eligible, and the first eligible team to win a match is champion. If no eligible team wins one of the last six games, the title goes to whoever has the most points after match 18.

So 8Bit are favourites, but not overwhelming ones. A good first game takes them over the line, and from there they need a win. K9 and Blitz probably need two good games before they are in the same position, and if either of them gets there and wins first, the lead from Saturday counts for nothing.

The final day streams on the Krafton India Esports YouTube channel.
