BGMI Lite is real, but you cannot download it yet. KRAFTON India announced on 16 August 2026 that Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite will launch in India by the end of 2026, and pre-registration opened on Google Play on 25 August. There is no release date, and as of early October 2026 the game is not out. Any site offering a “BGMI Lite APK” today is offering something other than the game.
This page used to tell readers to download a BGMI Lite APK from a direct link and switch on installs from unknown sources. That advice was wrong when it was written, because no such game existed, and it put phones at risk. Here is the accurate version.
What BGMI Lite is
BGMI Lite is a lighter version of Battlegrounds Mobile India for entry-level phones and patchy mobile connections. KRAFTON India has said the initial download will be about 1GB, far smaller than the full game. It has not yet published minimum system requirements or a feature list; those are due closer to launch.
Existing BGMI players will not need to create a new account or transfer one to play the Lite version. KRAFTON India has not yet said how purchases and inventory will work between the two.
How to pre-register for BGMI Lite
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
- Search for BGMI Lite and open the listing published by KRAFTON, Inc. Check the publisher name before you tap anything.
- Tap Pre-register. Google Play will install the game automatically, or notify you, on release day.
Pre-registration is Android-only for now. KRAFTON India has not announced an iOS date.
Why you should not install a “BGMI Lite APK”
Until KRAFTON releases the game, every “BGMI Lite APK” is either a renamed copy of something else, usually the old PUBG Mobile Lite, or a package built to look like a game. Installing one means turning off the protection that blocks unknown apps, on the same phone that holds your UPI apps, OTP messages and saved logins. Even a working copy of PUBG Mobile Lite is a dead end: it was among the apps the Indian government blocked in September 2020, and it cannot connect you to BGMI’s servers or your BGMI account.
When BGMI Lite does launch, it will come through Google Play. That is the only download worth having.
BGMI, briefly
Battlegrounds Mobile India is KRAFTON’s India-only version of PUBG Mobile. It launched on Android on 2 July 2021 and on iOS on 18 August 2021, was blocked by the government in July 2022, and returned in May 2023. Matches drop up to 100 players onto the map, playing solo, in duos or in squads of four.
