Praful Hinge's three-in-one-over debut hands SRH a 57-run win over unbeaten Rajasthan Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad handed Rajasthan Royals their first defeat of IPL 2026 on Monday night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, winning by 57 runs in a match that belonged to two uncapped bowlers. Debutant pacer Praful Hinge produced a spell for the record books, picking up three wickets in his very first over, before Sakib Hussain chipped in with four of his own to bundle the Royals out for 159 in chase of 217.
Ishan Kishan led the way with the bat for the hosts, falling nine short of a century. His 91 anchored SRH to 216 for 6 after Abhishek Sharma had been removed first ball by Jofra Archer. Heinrich Klaasen's 40 and useful cameos from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora pushed the innings past 200.
A first over that stopped the Royals in their tracks
Rajasthan's chase was meant to be a continuation of their perfect start to the season. Instead, it ended almost before it began. Hinge, a 24-year-old seamer from Nagpur, struck with his second ball. Two balls later he had another, and by the end of a single over from one end RR were 1 for 3, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel and Lhuan-dre Pretorius all back in the dugout. In 19 years of IPL cricket, no bowler had taken three wickets in the opening over of a match before.
Hinge came back to remove Riyan Parag later in the innings and finished with 4 for 18 from three overs. Sakib Hussain, also making his first IPL appearance, picked up Yashasvi Jaiswal and Donovan Ferreira on the way to his own four-wicket haul. Between them, the two debutants accounted for eight of the ten wickets.
Jadeja and Ferreira the only resistance
Once RR were reduced to 4 for 4 inside the opening two overs, Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira had to rebuild from nowhere. They put together the innings' only substantial partnership, briefly giving the Royals a heartbeat. When Ferreira fell and Sakib cleaned up the lower order, the chase folded for 159 with an over still unbowled.
The result reshuffles the top of the IPL 2026 points table. Rajasthan Royals, who had won their first four matches, remain top but with a dent in their net run rate. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who came into this game with one win from four, climb off the foot of the bottom half and hand their coaching staff a fresh selection headache with two uncapped bowlers now impossible to drop.
