Pakistan win in Port of Spain to level the series, three years after their last away Test win
West Indies needed a draw in Port of Spain for their first series win over Pakistan since 2000. They were bowled out for 117 instead.

Pakistan chased down 75 on the fourth day at Queen’s Park Oval, a result that landed overnight in India, to beat West Indies by eight wickets, square the two-Test series at 1-1, and win a Test away from home for the first time since July 2023.
Shafique batted for 323 balls
The win was built on one innings. Abdullah Shafique was unbeaten on 160 when Pakistan’s first innings closed on 387, a reply to West Indies’ 344 that took him 323 deliveries and included 15 fours and three sixes. It is the sort of occupation Pakistan’s top order has not managed away from home for a long while.
Only four Pakistan batters had passed 150 in a Test in the Caribbean before him: Hanif Mohammad, Wazir Mohammad, Saeed Ahmed and Majid Khan. Majid’s 167 in Guyana came in 1977, so the wait ran to 49 years. Babar Azam made 88 alongside him and Azan Awais 55, and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican finished with 6 for 112.
A lead of 43 does not usually decide a Test match. This one did, because of what happened next.

West Indies batted again on a surface that had started to grip, and Sajid Khan found it immediately. He had taken 4 for 85 in the first innings. He took another 4 for 32 in the second. Ali Usman, the 33-year-old left-arm spinner handed a debut earlier in this series, worked through the rest with 4 for 39.
West Indies closed the third day on 103 for 6, in front by 60 and still with a game to win. The last four wickets went inside half an hour on Wednesday morning. They were all out for 117 in 46.1 overs, and a lead of 74 left Pakistan a target of 75.
Azan Awais and Imam-ul-Haq went early enough to make the last hour mildly interesting rather than genuinely tense. Shafique and Babar knocked off the rest, both finishing unbeaten on 24, and Babar hit two sixes on the way as if to settle the argument about what was left in the pitch.
West Indies had this series in hand
West Indies won the first Test in Tarouba by 90 runs. Jayden Seales took a five-for there and Pakistan were bowled out for 120 in a little over 40 overs, a result that put the hosts one draw away from their first Test series win over Pakistan since 2000.
Justin Greaves has held their batting together through both matches, and he made 73 here alongside Roston Chase’s 70. Neither could repeat it second time round, and nobody else in the order got close. That is the difference between the two Tests: West Indies found runs from two players in Port of Spain and none at all when the game was there to be closed out.
What the win is worth to Pakistan
The Tarouba defeat was Pakistan’s eighth in a row away from home, a record for them and not the kind anyone wants. Their previous away win was against Sri Lanka in July 2023, when Babar was captain the first time. He is captain again now, and the streak is over.
Some perspective is fair. Pakistan lost the opening Test of this tour heavily, their batting folded twice in this one before Shafique rescued it, and a drawn series in the Caribbean is not a transformation. But their spinners took the wickets that mattered in Trinidad rather than in Multan or Rawalpindi, and that is not a sentence Pakistan have been able to write very often.
West Indies will look at 117 all out and at a series they were never behind in until the final morning.
