Nabi’s four wickets sink Jamaica, and Sabina Park is still waiting for a home win
Mohammad Nabi took four and Shai Hope finished it unbeaten as Guyana Amazon Warriors won their opener. The Kingsmen are three matches into their CPL return and have lost all three.

Sabina Park had not staged a Caribbean Premier League match since 2019. It has now had two in three days, and the home side has lost both.
Guyana Amazon Warriors bowled the Jamaica Kingsmen out for 117 on 13 August and knocked the runs off in 14.1 overs, six wickets and 35 balls to spare. Mohammad Nabi took four wickets and then made 19 in the chase, which settled the player-of-the-match award early.
Two spinners, six wickets, 48 runs
Jamaica were 61 for 3 in the tenth over when Imran Tahir had Reeza Hendricks caught and bowled. At that point the innings still had a shape. It did not survive the next hour.
Nabi finished with 4 for 22 from his four overs and Tahir with 2 for 26 from his. Between them the two spinners bowled eight of the twenty overs, conceded 48 runs, and took six of the ten wickets. Shamar Joseph came back at the death for 2 for 22 and ended the innings on 117 in 19.4.
Hendricks was the only one who read the pitch
Hendricks made 40 off 32 and looked like a batter who had worked out what the surface was doing. Rovman Powell hit 24 off 17, Kirk McKenzie 16 off 14, and Vitel Lawes swung 14 off 11 late on, which got Jamaica past three figures and nowhere near a defendable total.
Andre Russell, who two nights earlier had hit nine sixes and no fours in a losing chase against Barbados, did his damage with the ball instead. He took two wickets in the Guyana innings. There were not enough runs on the board for them to matter.
Hope did not need to hurry
Shai Hope finished unbeaten on 56 off 41, an innings paced to the target rather than to the occasion. Glenn Phillips got Guyana moving with 28 off 17, Nabi added 19 off 15, and Quentin Sampson was there at the end on 13 not out.
Four wickets went down and none of them changed anything. It was Guyana’s first match of the tournament and it put them top of the table.
Three matches, three defeats, and two of them by a whisker
The Kingsmen are a new franchise in a place that used to have one. The Jamaica Tallawahs won three CPL titles before the owners handed the team back to the league in late 2023, and Sabina Park’s last CPL night before this month was 19 September 2019, against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
The wait has not been rewarded yet. Jamaica lost their opener at Arnos Vale in St Vincent off the final ball, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons getting home by two wickets when a scramble to long-on brought the two runs they needed. Then Barbados beat them by five at Sabina Park. Then this, which was over with nearly six overs left.
Trinbago Knight Riders come to Kingston on Saturday, 15 August, one of four matches Sabina Park has been given this season. Powell and Russell both spent recent seasons at Trinbago, so they will know exactly what is coming. Sabina Park’s run of matches ends on 18 August, which does not leave the Kingsmen long to give the crowd a win to stay for.
