Most centuries in women’s cricket: Smriti Mandhana’s 18 is the world record

As far as Indian players are concerned, the likes of Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana have made the most number of international centuries (8).

The most centuries in women’s international cricket is 18, by Smriti Mandhana of India: two in Tests, 14 in one-day internationals and two in T20 internationals. She passed Meg Lanning’s 17, set before the Australian retired in 2023, and she is still playing.

Behind her, Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa and Lanning are level on 17, and Wolvaardt is still playing too. Between them, Mandhana and Wolvaardt have taken a list that used to be Australian and English at the top and made it a live one.

The record in each format belongs to someone else

Nobody leads all three lists, and only one of the three format records is held by a player near the top of the combined table.

Tests: Janette Brittin of England, five, made between 1979 and 1998. Four players have four, and one of them is Sandhya Agarwal of India, whose best was 190.
ODIs: Meg Lanning, 15, from 103 matches. Mandhana’s 14 is second and Suzie Bates and Wolvaardt have 13 each.
T20Is: Esha Oza of the United Arab Emirates, five. Chamari Athapaththu has four, and Hayley Matthews and Wolvaardt three each. This is the list people get wrong, because the T20I record has moved out of the Test-playing nations and a top-ten-by-fame list will not show it.

India’s century-makers

Mandhana’s 18 is more than double the next Indian. Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj have eight each — Kaur seven in ODIs and one in T20Is, Raj seven in ODIs and one in Tests. Mandhana’s highest scores are 149 in Tests, 136 in ODIs and 124 in T20Is.

Raj’s 214 against England at Taunton in August 2002 was the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket until Kiran Baluch of Pakistan made 242 in March 2004, and it is still the highest by an India batter — Shafali Verma’s 205 against South Africa at Chennai in 2024 is the only other double century India have made in a women’s Test.

Seven of the top ten are still playing

Only three of the ten players on 12 or more have retired: Lanning, who stopped in 2023, Charlotte Edwards in 2016 and Claire Taylor in 2011. Mandhana, Wolvaardt, Matthews, Bates, Beaumont, Athapaththu and Nat Sciver-Brunt were all in international cricket in 2026, which is why this is a list that will look different in a year and did not look like this two years ago.

Suzie Bates is the exception at the other end of it. She made her international debut in 2006 and is still the leading run-scorer in women’s T20Is — 4,758 to Mandhana’s 4,690, close enough that it may not last the season. The most-capped player in the format is Harmanpreet Kaur, on 205.
