Kishan made 80 from No. 5, and India bowled Sri Lanka out for 45 to set up an Asian Games final with Pakistan
Sri Lanka lost two wickets in Bumrah’s first over and were all out in 9.5 overs, India’s 124-run win in Nisshin sending them into Saturday’s gold-medal match.

India’s men had not bowled a ball at the Asian Games until Thursday. Their quarter-final against Afghanistan was abandoned without a result on 28 September, and they went through on seeding. Their first game in Nisshin lasted 29.5 overs and ended with Sri Lanka bowled out for 45.
India made 169 for 7 and won the second semi-final at Korogi Sports Park by 124 runs. They meet Pakistan for gold on Saturday, 3 October.
Kishan carries the innings from No. 5
Sri Lanka captain Sahan Arachchige won the toss and chose to bowl on a two-paced surface that gave the spinners sharp turn. It looked a good call. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson went for 7 each, and India’s powerplay ended at 58 for 2.
Most of those runs came from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old was playing his first game of the Asian Games and hit 38 off 21 balls, with six fours and two sixes, before he was caught at short third man. Shreyas Iyer, who captained the side, made 13. Axar Patel used up 13 balls for 8, and Tilak Varma was stumped for 2.
Ishan Kishan was the one who stayed. He came in at five, needed 33 balls for his fifty and finished unbeaten on 80 off 46, with four fours and five sixes. Arachchige was Sri Lanka’s best bowler with 2 for 28 from his four overs.
Two wickets in the first over
The chase was over almost before it started. Jasprit Bumrah removed Sineth Jayawardena and Sohan de Livera in his first over, both for ducks, and Sri Lanka were 0 for 2. Lasith Croospulle was then run out by a direct hit from Ravi Bishnoi.
Axar then had Arachchige and Ashen Bandara, Washington Sundar chipped in, and Abhishek finished it with two wickets in two balls. His figures were 2 for 2 from five deliveries. Bumrah’s two overs cost 7 and Axar’s three cost 8. Nuwanidu Fernando top-scored with 15.
A record Sri Lanka will not want
The 45 is Sri Lanka’s lowest total in T20 internationals. Their previous worst was 77 against South Africa in New York at the 2024 T20 World Cup. It also equals the lowest T20I total by any Full Member side, the 45 West Indies were bowled out for against England in 2019. West Indies batted 11.5 overs that day. Sri Lanka lasted 9.5.
Pakistan reached the final earlier in the day, beating Bangladesh by six wickets in a game cut to 13 overs a side because of a wet outfield. Sri Lanka play Bangladesh for bronze on Saturday morning. The gold-medal match is at 10:30am IST, and after a semi-final like this India go in as favourites. Pakistan’s bowlers can take something from the first half of it, though. India’s top four made 65 between them, and Kishan did most of the rest.
