India A Women lost six wickets for 50, and Australia A had the chase done in 14 overs
Tess Flintoff took four for 13 as India A Women were bowled out for 117 at New Chandigarh, and Australia A went 1-0 up in a seven-match tour with six overs to spare.

India A Women won the toss at New Chandigarh on Saturday night, chose to bat, and were 50 for 6 inside nine overs. They got to 117. Australia A knocked the runs off in 14 overs and went 1-0 up in a tour that still has six matches left in it.
Tess Flintoff took four for 13
Flintoff bowled her four overs straight through for 13 runs and four wickets, and she had the first of them in the second over of the match when Dinesh Vrinda edged to Lilly Mills. Shipra Giri had already looked the most comfortable of the top order, 17 off 15 with a four and a six, before Flintoff had her caught by Darcie Brown in the fifth.
The middle of the innings went in a heap. Milly Illingworth bowled Niki Prasad and then Shweta Sehrawat, the second of those leaving India A on 50 for 5 at the end of the eighth over. Tejal Hasabnis, who had made 22 off 15 and was the one batter timing it, holed out to Milly Illingworth off Charli Knott’s bowling one ball later. Two wickets, no runs between them, and six down while the ninth over was still being bowled.
Minnu Mani hit 23 off 14 to give the total some shape, and Sayali Satghare stayed to the end for 16 off 22. The last pair added 16, and not one partnership in the innings reached 20. Sianna Ginger finished with 2 for 17 and Knott with 1 for 13.
A chase that never looked like one
Australia A lost Rachel Trenaman in the third over and Tahlia Wilson to a Giri run-out in the sixth, and it made no difference. Katie Mack made 18, Knott added 35 off 23 to the wicket she had taken, and Anika Learoyd finished it with 33 not out off 19 balls, five fours and a six among them.
Anushka Sharma, the India A captain, was the pick of her own bowlers with 2 for 14 from her two overs of off spin. At the other end of the scale, Shabnam Shakil’s two overs cost 36. India A did not bowl a single wide or no-ball in the innings, which is the sort of statistic that usually comes with a tighter scoreboard than 121 for 4 in 14.
There is a lot of this tour still to play
This is not a short trip. Australia A are in India for three T20 matches, three one-day games and a four-day match, running from now until early October. The second T20 is at the same ground on Tuesday 15 September, the third on Thursday, then the one-day leg moves to Mohali on 20, 23 and 25 September before the four-day game starts at Dharamsala on 29 September.
For an India A side built around players pushing for senior selection, that is a long run of cricket against an Australian group that has just shown what its bowling can do on an Indian surface. Losing the first one by six wickets with six overs unused is a bad night rather than a verdict. The next six will say more.
