Chandigarh had already been bowled out for 103 when Haryana went in at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli on Sunday, and for 15 overs it looked as if nobody would bat for long on this pitch. Ankit Kumar, Himanshu Rana, Aman Kumar and Dheeru Singh were all gone with 37 on the board. Then Nishant Sindhu and Yashvardhan Dalal stayed together for the next 45 overs.
By the time Dalal was stumped for 95 off 139 balls, the pair had added 175 for the fifth wicket and the game was as good as settled. Sindhu batted on to 92 off 194 balls before Vishu Kashyap trapped him lbw, and Haryana were all out for 245 on Monday, a lead of 142.
Chandigarh needed 142 just to make Haryana bat again. They reached 100 for 4 in their second innings with captain Manan Vohra on 47, and then Sindhu bowled him. The last five wickets went down for 18 runs in less than 12 overs, and Chandigarh were all out for 118 off the final ball of the 47th over. Haryana won by an innings and 24 runs, inside two of the four days.
Four overs in the first innings, six wickets in the second
Sindhu hardly bowled first time round. He sent down four overs for 11 runs without a wicket, while Aman Kumar (3 for 21), Ajit Chahal (3 for 17) and Anuj Thakral (3 for 34) shared nine of the ten wickets and Chandigarh folded in 41.3 overs.
On Monday he bowled 13 overs and took 6 for 27. Vohra and wicketkeeper Akshit Rana were among them, and so was Nishunk Birla, out first ball. Birla had been the best thing about Chandigarh’s two days. He took 5 for 63, four of them after the big stand broke, when Haryana lost their last six wickets for 33. Kanishk Chouhan took 3 for 32 from the other end, and Sindhu was named player of the match.
Two games, two wins, 13 points
The innings win was worth seven points. Haryana also won their opening game, beating Himachal Pradesh by seven wickets at home in Rohtak, and they sit top of Elite Group D on 13. Mumbai have seven points from one match and lead Himachal by 258 runs in Bilaspur going into the third day.
Chandigarh have now lost both their games by an innings. In the first round Mumbai bowled them out for 78 at the Wankhede and won by an innings and 155 runs.
Chandigarh could not tell anyone much about this Haryana side. Mumbai should: Haryana travel there for their next game, starting on 26 October.
