Rohit Sharma set the record for the most consecutive wins by a T20 International captain in July 2022. India’s 49-run win over England at Edgbaston on 9 July was his 14th in a row as skipper, a run that began at Rajkot in November 2019. It ended the next day, when England won the third T20I at Trent Bridge by 17 runs.
Two days before Edgbaston, India beat England by 50 runs at Southampton in Rohit’s first T20I since the Sri Lanka series in February. Hardik Pandya made 51 and took four wickets, and that win, Rohit’s 13th in a row, took him past the 12 of Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan and Romania’s Ramesh Satheesan.
The streak started with the second T20I against Bangladesh at Rajkot in November 2019, when Rohit made 85 from 43 balls and India chased 154 in 15.4 overs. Several of the 14 wins came in games he led while Virat Kohli was still India’s regular T20I captain, which is why the run spans India defeats under Kohli.
The captains Rohit passed
Asghar Afghan oversaw Afghanistan’s rise in T20 cricket after taking over in 2015. He first put together 11 straight wins between March 2016 and March 2017, including whitewashes of the UAE and Ireland, then went 12 games unbeaten as captain between February 2018 and March 2020. Afghanistan won 42 and lost nine of his 52 T20Is in charge.
Ramesh Satheesan matched him with a 33-run win over Luxembourg in September 2021. His run of 12 began in October 2020; he had led Romania since their first T20I, against Austria in 2019.
Charles Perchard of Jersey and Uganda’s Deusdedit Muhumuza each had 10 at the time.

Winning streaks since 2022
Team winning runs in men’s T20Is have gone a long way past 14 since Rohit set his mark. Spain won 24 in a row between February 2023 and August 2026, the longest by any team, and Uganda won 17 between October 2024 and July 2025. Japan matched Rohit’s 14 between May 2024 and May 2025.
Those are team records. A captain’s streak only counts matches he led himself, and the published records do not list T20I captains match by match, so the table below is the captaincy list as it stood when Rohit set his record.
