Lowest scores in women’s T20I cricket: Mali, Maldives share unwanted record

In 2011, India were bowled out for 62 by Australia, their lowest score in women’s T20I.

Mali and the Maldives share the record for the lowest score in women’s T20I cricket. Both were bowled out for 6, five months apart in 2019.

Mali made 6 against Rwanda at a Rwandan ground on 18 June 2019. The Maldives matched it against Bangladesh at Pokhara on 5 December 2019.

Mali 6 v Rwanda, June 2019

Mali batted first in a Kwibuka Twenty20 tournament match and were bowled out for 6 in nine overs. Rwanda’s bowlers conceded almost nothing between them: Jackie Nyirankundineza took 3 for 0 from two maiden overs, Marie Vumiliya 2 for 0 from three maidens, Merveille Bimenyimana 2 for 2 and Vestine Iriho 1 for 0. Rwanda knocked off the seven needed in four balls without losing a wicket.

Maldives 6 v Bangladesh, December 2019

Five months later the Maldives equalled it, chasing at the 2019 South Asian Games in Pokhara. Bangladesh had made 255 for 2 in their 20 overs; the Maldives were dismissed for 6 in 12.1 overs and lost by 249 runs. Ritu Moni took 3 for 1 and Salma Khatun 3 for 2.

Two days after that, the Maldives were bowled out for 8 by Nepal at the same ground, with Anjali Chand taking 4 for 1 from four overs, three of them maidens.

How the list has changed

Five of the twelve lowest totals were made in 2019 alone, when Mali and the Maldives were new to the format. Six have come since the start of 2023, as more associate nations have been granted T20I status: the Philippines’ 9 against Thailand in 2023, Serbia’s 11 against Greece the same year, China’s 8 against Thailand and Croatia’s 13 against Spain in 2024, Saudi Arabia’s 13 against the UAE in 2025 and Lesotho’s 13 against Brazil in April 2026.

Mali appear three times in the twelve and the Maldives twice, which is why the 2019 pair still sit at the top.

Lowest women’s T20I total by a full member

Bangladesh hold that record with 30 against Pakistan at Cox’s Bazar on 3 October 2018. Their 32 against New Zealand at Christchurch in December 2022 is next, and West Indies’ 43 against England at Bridgetown that same month is third.

India women’s lowest T20I score

India’s lowest women’s T20I total is 62, made against Australia at Billericay on 23 June 2011. Batting first in a quadrangular series match, India were bowled out in 18.2 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur top-scored with 41 from 49 balls; Sarah Coyte took four wickets for five runs.

That figure has stood for fifteen years and remains the only India women’s T20I total under 70.
