The fastest team 100 in Test cricket belongs to India, who got there in 10.1 overs against Bangladesh at Kanpur in September 2024. It is still the record two years later. England moved into second place in November 2024 with a 12.1-over hundred while chasing in Christchurch, which pushed India’s previous record (12.2 overs at Port of Spain in 2023) down to third.

The list counts Tests where the balls are known: ball-by-ball records are incomplete for older matches. Figures are to 12 October 2026.

1. India, 10.1 overs v Bangladesh, Kanpur, 2024

Rain and a wet outfield wiped out most of the first three days of the second Test, so India batted as if it were a T20 to force a result. Bangladesh made 233, then Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma took India to 100 in 61 balls. At that point Jaiswal had 67 off 40, Rohit had gone for 23 off 11 and Shubman Gill had 11 off 11.

India declared on 285/9 after only 34.4 overs and went on to win by seven wickets, completing a 2-0 series win.

2. England, 12.1 overs v New Zealand, Christchurch, 2024

England needed 104 to win the first Test at Hagley Oval and knocked them off in 12.4 overs to win by eight wickets. They passed 100 in the 13th over. Debutant Jacob Bethell made 50 not out off 37 balls, Ben Duckett 27 off 18 and Joe Root 23 not out off 15.

3. India, 12.2 overs v West Indies, Port of Spain, 2023

This was the record until Kanpur. Chasing quick runs in the second innings of the second Test, Rohit Sharma (57 off 44) and Jaiswal (38 off 29) put on 98 for the first wicket, and India reached 100 in 12.2 overs. They declared on 181/2 after 24 overs, but rain on the final day meant the match was drawn.

4. Sri Lanka, 13.2 overs v Bangladesh, Colombo (SSC), 2001

After bowling Bangladesh out for 90 in the Asian Test Championship match in September 2001, Sri Lanka raced to 100 behind Sanath Jayasuriya, who made 89 off 56 balls. Marvan Atapattu (201) and Mahela Jayawardene (150) followed, Sri Lanka declared on 555/5, and they won by an innings and 137 runs.

5. England, 13.3 overs v South Africa, The Oval, 1994

England needed 204 to win the third Test and level the series, and they reached 100 in 13.3 overs on the way to 205/2 and an eight-wicket win.

6=. Bangladesh, 13.4 overs v West Indies, Mirpur, 2012

West Indies declared their first innings on 527/4, and Bangladesh replied at a run a ball. Tamim Iqbal had 57 off 40 when they reached 100 in 13.4 overs. Bangladesh went on to make 556 but still lost the first Test by 77 runs.

6=. England, 13.4 overs v Pakistan, Rawalpindi and Karachi, 2022

England did it twice on the same tour. At Rawalpindi, Zak Crawley (58 off 42 at the time) and Ben Duckett (42 off 41) took them to 103 without loss on the first morning of the series. Harry Brook (153), Crawley (122), Ollie Pope (108) and Duckett (107) all made hundreds in a total of 657, and England won by 74 runs.

In the third Test at Karachi, England chased 167 and reached 100 in 13.4 overs, with Duckett 46 off 31 and Crawley 41 off 41. They won by eight wickets to complete a 3-0 series win.
