The T20I format asks batters to score far quicker than in ODIs and Tests, where they can take time to settle before accelerating.

Chris Gayle hit the first T20I hundred at the 2007 World Cup. India’s first came from Suresh Raina in 2010, and Indian men have now made 26 T20I hundreds. The quickest have come in the last two years.

Abhishek Sharma holds the record for the fastest century for India in T20Is. He reached three figures in 30 balls against Afghanistan in Delhi on 17 September 2026. It took the Indian record from Rohit Sharma, whose 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka had stood since 2017.

Abhishek Sharma – 30 balls vs Afghanistan

Abhishek Sharma reached his hundred in 30 balls in the third T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on 17 September 2026. He finished on 108 off 34 balls with nine fours and 11 sixes, and India won by 127 runs to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

It is the third-fastest hundred in men’s T20Is, behind Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan (27 balls) and Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad (29), and the fastest by a batter from a Full Member nation. Abhishek also has the third-fastest Indian hundred: 37 balls against England at the Wankhede in February 2025, on the way to 135 off 54 balls, India’s highest individual score in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma – 35 balls vs Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma smashed 118 off 43 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore in December 2017, reaching three figures in 35 balls. That equalled David Miller’s world record, set two months earlier, and it stood as the Indian record for almost nine years.

The right-handed batter hit 12 fours and 10 sixes as India won by 88 runs. Rohit, who retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup, finished with five T20I hundreds, jointly the most in the format with Glenn Maxwell.

Suryakumar Yadav – 45 balls vs Sri Lanka

Suryakumar Yadav has been a revelation since making his international debut against England in March 2021.

Having finished 2022 as the leading run-scorer in T20Is, he continued his form with a 45-ball century in the final T20I of Sri Lanka’s tour of India in January 2023, finishing on 112* off 51 balls.

It was his third T20I hundred, after tons against England (July 2022) and New Zealand (November 2022). All three came in under 50 balls, with SKY striking at over 200 each time.

KL Rahul – 46 balls vs West Indies

One of KL Rahul’s two T20I centuries makes the list. He reached 100 in 46 balls against the West Indies at Lauderhill, USA, in August 2016.

Chasing a daunting target of 246, India lost the match by just one run.
