Big Bash League Points Table

No points table available for this season.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are BBL points awarded?

Two points for a win, none for a defeat, and one point each for a tie or a match ended without a result. Teams are then ranked on their points total. This replaced an earlier system, so older tables from the start of the 2020s do not read the same way.

What happened to the Bash Boost point?

It was scrapped. For a few seasons from 2020-21 the BBL used a four-point match, with three points for the win and a bonus point decided by the score comparison at the 10-over mark of the chase. That was dropped along with the X-Factor substitute, and the competition returned to a straightforward two points for a win.

How many teams make the BBL finals?

Four of the eight. The top four after the league stage go into a four-match finals series: the Qualifier, the Knockout, the Challenger and the final. The other four teams are finished for the season once the league stage ends.

What is the difference between the Knockout, the Qualifier and the Challenger?

The Qualifier is between the top two, and the winner goes directly into the final. The Knockout is between third and fourth, and the loser is eliminated on the spot. The Challenger then matches the Qualifier’s loser against the Knockout’s winner, with the winner taking the remaining place in the final.

What separates two teams level on points?

Net run rate, which weighs the rate a side has scored at across the season against the rate it has conceded at. In a 10-match league it moves quickly, and a single heavily one-sided result can push a team above or below a rival it is level with on points.

How many matches does each team play?

Ten in the league stage. Across the eight teams that comes to 40 matches, and the four-match finals series takes a completed season to 44. The schedule is compressed into roughly six weeks, so teams often play twice in three or four days.

When is the BBL played?

Through the Australian summer, starting in December and finishing in late January. Matches are staged most evenings across the holiday period, and the tournament is built around that window rather than around a fixed set of dates, so the exact start and finish move a little each season.
