Short and Couch fire San Francisco Unicorns top as MI New York fold for 104
Matthew Short took four wickets as San Francisco Unicorns bowled MI New York out for 104 and chased the target down with five wickets to spare, a win that lifted them to the top of the Major League Cricket table.

A night after Kieron Pollard had dragged them over the line with an unbeaten 63, MI New York’s batting fell apart in Pomona. They were bowled out for 104, and San Francisco Unicorns knocked off the runs with 19 balls and five wickets to spare to go top of the Major League Cricket table.
The damage was done by Matthew Short. The Australia all-rounder turned his off-spin into the game’s decisive weapon, finishing with 4 for 17 from his four overs, and Brody Couch took the other three as the pair shared seven wickets between them.
MI New York never get going
Batting first, MI New York never found any rhythm. Wickets kept tumbling at one end while nobody stuck around long enough at the other to build an innings. Corbin Bosch top-scored with 21 and Nicholas Pooran made 20, and they were the only two batters to reach that mark. The innings limped to 104 all out, the last wicket falling off the final ball.
San Francisco’s attack was relentless without ever needing to be express. Short did the bulk of the work through the middle overs, and the seamers gave nothing away around him, with Xavier Bartlett, Haris Rauf and Aaron Hardie all going at five an over or fewer. On a used surface, 104 was never going to be enough.
Krishnamurthi steers the chase
San Francisco did lose five wickets getting there, more than they would have wanted against a total that small, but Sanjay Krishnamurthi made sure there was no late scare. He anchored the reply for an unbeaten 48 off 45 balls, and Short backed up his bowling with a brisk 21 to keep the game moving. The Unicorns were home with 19 balls to spare, the kind of unfussy chase that tells you plenty about a side.
Top of the table
The result lifts San Francisco to the top of the MLC 2026 standings. Four teams are now level on eight points, and it is the Unicorns’ net run rate of 0.367 that separates them at the summit. For MI New York, it is a reminder of how quickly things turn in a short tournament. One night they are celebrating a Pollard rescue act, the next they are back in the sheds for 104 with barely a fight.
