Manchester Super Giants bowl out London Spirit for 80 to go top of the Hundred
Ryana MacDonald-Gay’s four for 17 skittled London Spirit for 80 as Manchester Super Giants, with Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh chipping in, won by seven wickets to top the women’s Hundred.

Manchester Super Giants turned the women’s Hundred on its head at Lord’s on Thursday, bowling London Spirit out for 80 and then cruising home with 41 balls to spare. Ryana MacDonald-Gay did the damage with four for 17, and the seven-wicket win lifted the visitors to the top of the table on net run-rate.
London Spirit fold for 80
Nothing went right for the home side with the bat. London Spirit slid to 28 for five and were 48 for six at the halfway mark, the innings unravelling almost as soon as it began. Sophie Ecclestone removed Deandra Dottin and finished with one for seven, while player of the match MacDonald-Gay ran through the rest. Marizanne Kapp top-scored with 17 from 12 balls and Charlie Dean made 14, with only Charis Pavely (13) and Nadine de Klerk (10) also reaching double figures, and London Spirit were bundled out for 80 inside 91 balls.
Mandhana and Ghosh keep it simple
The chase was never really in doubt. Kapp did remove Smriti Mandhana lbw on review for 17, but the India opener had already helped settle the visitors, and Richa Ghosh, who earlier took the catch behind the stumps to end London Spirit’s innings, finished on 15 not out. Captain Meg Lanning made 21 and Paige Scholfield saw it home with an unbeaten 22 as Super Giants reached 86 for 3 and walked off Lord’s at the top of the standings.
An early marker, with a caveat
It is still early in the Hundred, and net run-rate at the head of a table this young means very little in late July. But a performance this complete, and one led so clearly by the bowlers, is exactly the kind Manchester Super Giants will want to bottle. London Spirit, for their part, will need to bat a good deal longer than 80 to trouble anyone in this competition.
