Inter agree a €3m deal for Lazio’s Ivan Provedel, pending a medical

A modest €3m signing gives the Serie A champions the experienced deputy they wanted, though Provedel’s recent shoulder surgery leaves the medical as the final hurdle.

Inter agree a €3m deal for Lazio’s Ivan Provedel, pending a medical

Inter have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio, bringing in an experienced deputy for a fee reported at around three million euros. The switch still hinges on a medical, but the two clubs have settled terms and Provedel is set to sign a three-year contract that runs until 2029 on wages of roughly 1.5 million euros net a season.

A cheap fix for a real gap

Inter went into the window needing a senior goalkeeper rather than a raw understudy, and Provedel answers that at minimal cost. He arrives with years of Serie A behind him at Lazio, where he was first choice for long stretches, and slots in as the reliable backup for a squad that wants cover it can trust across a long season on multiple fronts. Three million euros for a keeper of that pedigree is the kind of tidy piece of business Inter have made a habit of.

Getting there took a little haggling. Lazio pushed for something nearer four to five million before the clubs converged on Inter’s number, and the final fee reflects both Provedel’s age and a fitness question that has hung over the deal from the start.

Why the medical carries weight

Provedel has not played since March, when a shoulder injury needed surgery. The recovery has been put at four to five months, which points to him being available again around August rather than the moment the deal is signed. For a transfer this small the medical would usually be a formality, but that injury history is exactly why Inter want their doctors to sign off before anything is made official. Both sides expect it to go through, with Provedel due in Milan to complete the checks.

A knock-on effect at Lazio

Letting Provedel go reshapes Lazio’s goalkeeping order too. Christos Mandas, back after a loan spell at Bournemouth where he did not feature, is in line to inherit the gloves as the new first choice, with Edoardo Motta as his cover. For Lazio it is a chance to hand the position to a younger keeper they rate; for Provedel it is a move to a side chasing the biggest prizes, even if he starts it watching from the bench.

It is the sort of low-profile signing that rarely makes headlines but keeps a squad ticking, and Inter have got theirs done early while much of the market is still shadow-boxing over bigger names.
