Prabhsimran and Iyer power Punjab Kings to seven-wicket rout of Mumbai Indians

Punjab Kings made light of a 196-run target at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, cruising home by seven wickets with 21 balls to spare as Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer took the game away from Mumbai Indians in a one-sided chase.
De Kock's lone hand lifts MI to 195
Put in to bat after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians stumbled to 12 for 2 inside the powerplay. Arshdeep Singh was the architect of the early damage, removing both Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Quinton de Kock counter-attacked from the wreckage, punishing anything short and clearing the boundary with authority on both sides of the wicket. He found an able partner in Naman Dhir, and the pair added 122 off 68 balls to haul Mumbai back into the contest. Dhir fell for 50 off 31 balls, but de Kock carried on, reaching his century off 53 deliveries before finishing unbeaten on 112 off 60. It was only his third IPL hundred, and easily the best innings played in a losing cause this season. Arshdeep finished with figures of 3 for 22, his tight new-ball spell setting the tone for what followed.
PBKS overhaul the target inside 17 overs
Chasing 196, Punjab Kings lost Priyansh Arya early but Prabhsimran Singh signalled his intent from ball one. The 25-year-old raced to a half-century off just 23 balls and never took his foot off the pedal, smashing boundaries through the line and over mid-wicket with equal ease. Iyer joined the carnage with a measured yet aggressive 66 off 35, timing his acceleration to perfection as the required rate dropped below a run a ball. Cooper Connolly chipped in briefly before falling to Allah Ghazanfar, but by then the damage was done. Marcus Stoinis sealed the win with a boundary in the 17th over, leaving the Wankhede crowd stunned.
What it means for both sides
Punjab Kings extend their unbeaten start to IPL 2026 and remain at the top of the points table. For Mumbai Indians, this is a fourth straight loss since their opening-night win over KKR, and the five-time champions now sit near the bottom with just two points from five games. Hardik Pandya's side are running out of time to turn their season around, with the fixtures only getting harder from here.
