Kyle Jamieson handed demerit point for aggressive send-off to Sooryavanshi

Kyle Jamieson is the latest player to fall foul of the IPL's match officials. The Delhi Capitals seamer accepted a Level 1 sanction on Saturday for an aggressive send-off after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Jaipur, picking up one demerit point and a warning from Match Referee Rajeev Seth.
A second-over flashpoint
The incident came in the second over of the Rajasthan Royals' innings on Friday night at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Jamieson got Sooryavanshi to under-edge a low full toss into the stumps, then walked towards the 15-year-old in what officials described as an aggressive manner. Sooryavanshi did not engage, but the proximity and gesturing were enough for the on-field umpires to flag it.
Article 2.5 and the verdict
The IPL confirmed Jamieson breached Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct, which covers actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player. He admitted the offence and accepted the sanction without a hearing. Four demerit points within a three-year window would trigger a one-match suspension.
A senior pacer, a 15-year-old, and the optics
The teenager has been a target for opposition bowlers from the start of IPL 2026, with his strike rate above 230 making him the most disruptive opener in the tournament. The optics of a 6'8" Test-experienced fast bowler bearing down on a 15-year-old were always going to be picked up, regardless of intent.
The night Delhi rewrote their own ceiling
Jamieson's wicket and send-off set the tone, but Rajasthan still posted 225 for six on the back of Riyan Parag's 90. Delhi reached 226 for three with five balls remaining, KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka putting on 110 for the first wicket to set up the chase. It was Delhi's biggest successful chase in their IPL history, and ended a three-match losing run that had threatened to push them out of the playoff race.
For Jamieson, the demerit is a footnote to a strong day with the ball. For Sooryavanshi, who made 4 off 2 balls in the second over, it was a reminder that opposition plans for him are now built around getting in his face early.
