CSK rope in 25-year-old Dian Forrester at 75 lakh as Overton's thigh ends his IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings have signed South African all-rounder Dian Forrester at 75 lakh as the replacement for Jamie Overton, whose right-thigh injury has ended his IPL 2026 with the playoff push entering its final stretch. Overton flew back to the United Kingdom for further assessment, and CSK confirmed that the 25-year-old Forrester is joining up with the squad in Lucknow ahead of Friday's match against the Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium.
Overton leaves as CSK's second-highest wicket-taker
Overton's exit cuts short one of the better IPL stories of this campaign. The England all-rounder finished with 14 wickets in ten games at an average of 17.78 and an economy of 8.89, making him CSK's second-highest wicket-taker of the season. His last appearance was the 10 May home game against the same Lucknow side at Chepauk, where his 3 for 36 won the Player of the Match award in a five-wicket CSK win. The thigh problem flared up after that game and a more detailed assessment back in England has now ruled him out for the rest of the tournament.
Who is Dian Forrester
Forrester, a 25-year-old left-handed batter and right-arm fast bowler, made his South Africa debut in a T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year. He has five T20Is to his name, with 83 runs at an average of 27.66 and a strike rate of 108, and across his wider T20 career he has 681 runs in 36 matches at an average of 35.84 and a strike rate of 140, plus 11 wickets at an economy of 9.33. He is not a like-for-like replacement for Overton, who was bowling in the powerplay and hitting late, but the package of left-handed striking and seam-up overs gives CSK something in the same general shape.
A patched-up squad for the run-in
Forrester walks into a CSK group that has been chasing its tail on injuries all season. Nathan Ellis, Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre and Ramakrishna Ghosh have all been ruled out or sidelined for stretches, Dewald Brevis missed the opening three matches with a side strain, and MS Dhoni has not travelled with the squad to Lucknow as he manages his own niggle. Spencer Johnson is yet to play a game this season. Forrester's signing does not solve all of that, but it gives Ruturaj Gaikwad a fresh overseas option to plug into a side that is still mathematically alive in the playoff race with two matches left.
