RCB vs CSK set to kick off IPL 2026 in Bengaluru blockbuster on March 28

A blockbuster to start the season
If the reports are confirmed, IPL 2026 will open with arguably the league's most marketable fixture. RCB against CSK in Bengaluru, under lights, on March 28. The defending champions hosting the five-time winners on the opening night is exactly the kind of box-office start the BCCI wants.
RCB won their maiden IPL title last season after years of near-misses. Opening the new campaign at home against their fiercest rivals gives them a chance to set the tone early. CSK, as always, will travel with a vocal support base and the experience of having been here before more than anyone else in the competition.
Schedule to come in two parts
The BCCI is releasing the IPL 2026 schedule in two phases. The first batch, covering the opening 20 days of the tournament, is expected by March 12 or 13. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the phased approach is necessary due to upcoming state assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Kerala, which create logistical and security complications around certain venues.
The tournament will feature 10 teams playing 84 matches between March 28 and May 31. The final is also expected to be held in Bengaluru, giving RCB the prospect of defending their title on home soil.
New faces and new venues
Raipur joins the list of IPL venues this season, adding a fresh stop to the circuit. On the coaching front, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has been appointed batting coach of Gujarat Titans, bringing his experience of Indian conditions to a franchise that struggled with consistency last year.
Several teams have already started pre-season camps. CSK began training on March 1, RCB held a camp in February, and Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders have all been through early preparations. With the schedule imminent, the intensity will ramp up quickly.
