The first full week of IPL 2026 has already thrown up shock results, record-breaking chases and individual brilliance. Sunday offers more of the same with two contrasting fixtures that carry very different stakes.

SRH vs LSG, 3:30 PM, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium

Sunrisers Hyderabad return to their home ground riding the confidence of a 65-run demolition of KKR at Eden Gardens. Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma all fired in that match as SRH posted 226 for 8, and their ability to defend the total showed that this team has more than just batting power. Ishan Kishan continues to lead in Pat Cummins' absence after the Australian was recalled for national duty, and the interim captain will want to make a statement in front of his home crowd.

Lucknow Super Giants are still searching for their first win after falling to Delhi Capitals in their opening fixture. Rishabh Pant's side were undone by Sameer Rizvi's rescue act that night and need a response. Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje and Wanindu Hasaranga give LSG a bowling attack capable of testing any batting lineup, but Hyderabad's ground has been a run-scoring paradise in recent seasons. The side batting second has won four of the last five matches here, and the toss could be decisive.

RCB vs CSK, 7:30 PM, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

The evening fixture is the one that carries the most weight. RCB made a strong start to their title defence with a six-wicket win over SRH on opening night, powered by Virat Kohli's unbeaten 69 off 38 balls and an eye-catching debut from New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy. Rajat Patidar's squad look settled and dangerous on their home ground, where short boundaries and a flat deck have historically favoured stroke-makers.

CSK's season could not have started much worse. Two defeats from two matches, no MS Dhoni and a misfiring top order have left the five-time champions bottom of the table with a net run rate deep in the red. Sanju Samson has managed just single-figure scores in both innings since arriving from Rajasthan Royals, and head coach Stephen Fleming has publicly called for patience. Dhoni returned to training earlier this week but is not expected to feature this weekend, leaving Ruturaj Gaikwad to find answers from his existing group.

A third straight defeat would leave CSK firmly adrift before the tournament settles into its middle phase. RCB, by contrast, have the chance to build momentum and stamp early authority on the table.

The bigger picture

Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings all sit on four points with two wins apiece, setting the early pace. RCB, SRH and Mumbai Indians have a single win each. At the bottom, KKR, CSK and Gujarat Titans are all winless, while LSG have yet to pick up a point from their one outing. Sunday's results will start to sort the early contenders from the pack.
