West Ham ripped through a sorry Wolves side in the second half on Friday night, scoring three times after the break to seal a result that transforms the relegation picture heading into the final stretch of the season.

Mavropanos opens the floodgates

The first half was a cagey affair for long stretches. Crysencio Summerville wasted the best early chance when he scooped over the bar after being played through by Mateus Fernandes. West Ham kept pressing, though, and got their reward three minutes before the interval. Jarrod Bowen delivered a cross from the right and Konstantinos Mavropanos rose highest to plant a header beyond the Wolves goalkeeper. It was the kind of set-piece goal West Ham have leaned on all season, and the London Stadium exhaled.

Castellanos takes two minutes to kill the contest

Whatever was said at half-time worked. West Ham came out with more purpose after the restart and Castellanos doubled the lead in the 66th minute, finishing calmly after good build-up play. Two minutes later, Wolves gave the ball away straight from kick-off and Bowen fed Castellanos again. The Argentine took a touch and rolled his shot inside the far post via the woodwork to make it 3-0. The game was over as a contest before the 70th minute had arrived.

Mavropanos added his second of the night with a late volley in the 83rd minute to complete the rout. It was a performance of real conviction from a side that had been seven points adrift of safety earlier in the season after losing to Nottingham Forest in January.

Tottenham drop into the bottom three

The scoreline mattered beyond the London Stadium. West Ham's three points took them up to 17th on 32 points, leapfrogging Tottenham, who now sit 18th on 30 points without a single Premier League win in 2026. It is the first time in 17 years that Spurs have occupied a relegation spot. Roberto De Zerbi, appointed less than two weeks ago, faces a daunting task with seven matches left to save their season.

For Wolves, the maths grows bleaker by the week. Rob Edwards' side remain rooted to the bottom on 17 points and relegation could be confirmed as early as next week when they travel to Leeds.
