Wolves stun Liverpool with Andre stoppage-time winner at Molineux

Liverpool's increasingly difficult 2025-26 campaign hit a new low on Tuesday evening when bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers snatched a 2-1 victory at Molineux with virtually the last kick of the game.
Rodrigo Gomes breaks the deadlock
After a largely uneventful opening 77 minutes, Rodrigo Gomes broke the deadlock for Wolves. Tolu Arokodare's pass sent the Portuguese forward clear and he produced a delicate chip over Alisson to give the home side a surprise lead.
Mohamed Salah, who had gone ten league games without a goal, appeared to rescue Liverpool five minutes later when he fired home the equaliser in the 83rd minute. For a brief spell, it looked like the Egyptian had spared his side further embarrassment.
Andre completes the turnaround
But deep into added time, Andre, the Brazilian midfielder who was once linked with a move to Liverpool, struck his first goal for Wolves. His shot took a heavy deflection off Joe Gomez, wrong-footing Alisson and sending Molineux into delirium. Fourth minute of stoppage time, and Rob Edwards' side had completed back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season.
Title defense in tatters
For Liverpool, the defeat is their ninth in the league this season. They sit fifth on 48 points after 29 games, 16 behind leaders Arsenal, with the title defense that started with such promise now reduced to a fight for Champions League qualification. Manchester United and Aston Villa, both on 51 points, currently occupy third and fourth.
Manager Arne Slot is under growing pressure. His side had won three consecutive matches before this trip to the West Midlands, but losing to the league's bottom club has raised fresh questions about whether the Dutchman can turn things around. Liverpool face Galatasaray in the Champions League last 16 next week, and anything less than a strong European run could make his position very difficult.
Wolves, for their part, now have two straight wins under Edwards and a glimmer of hope in their battle against relegation. Still rooted to the bottom, but performances like this suggest they will not go quietly.
