Manchester City closing in on £90m summer deal for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson

Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a summer deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with multiple outlets describing the move as a formality despite no official confirmation from either club. The fee is expected to be around £90 million, though some reports have put the figure anywhere between £75 million and £100 million.
City identify Anderson as a primary target
Pep Guardiola's side, currently second in the Premier League on 60 points, have reportedly been tracking the 23-year-old for several months. City's sporting director is said to have identified Anderson as a priority target, and scouts have been watching him regularly since the start of the season.
Anderson, who was born on 6 November 2002 in Whitley Bay, has been a consistent presence in Forest's midfield this season, making 28 Premier League appearances with one goal and two assists. He joined Forest from Newcastle United in July 2024 for £35 million, meaning the reported fee would represent a significant profit for the Midlands club.
Forest in a difficult position
Forest sit 17th in the Premier League table with 28 points from 29 games and have gone through four managers this season alone. Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche all came and went before Vitor Pereira was appointed in mid-February on an 18-month contract.
With the club fighting relegation, selling their most prized midfielder might seem counterintuitive. But the size of the reported fee and Forest's need to balance the books could make it hard to turn down. Anderson has represented England at senior international level and, at 23, is entering his peak years.
Other clubs circling
City are not alone in their admiration. Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest in Anderson, though City appear to be furthest along in their pursuit. His versatility in midfield and his ability to carry the ball forward have made him one of the most sought-after young English players in the division.
The deal would not be officially completed until the summer transfer window opens, and both clubs have yet to make any public comment. But for now, the expectation across football is that Anderson will be wearing sky blue next season.
