Cherki inspires Manchester City to dominant 3-0 win at Chelsea as title race tightens

Manchester City sent a message to the rest of the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, tearing Chelsea apart with three goals in 17 second-half minutes to win 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and turn up the heat on league leaders Arsenal.
Cagey first half gives way to City blitz
The first 45 minutes were tight and scrappy. Chelsea, sitting sixth and still chasing European places, sat deep and made it difficult for City to find space. Cole Palmer tested Gianluigi Donnarumma with a free kick that the City goalkeeper held well, but neither side created clear-cut chances before the break.
Cherki unlocks Chelsea
Everything changed when Rayan Cherki started drifting between the lines early in the second half. The Frenchman delivered a perfect cross in the 51st minute that Nico O'Reilly met with a powerful header past Robert Sanchez to break the deadlock. Six minutes later, Cherki dribbled across the Chelsea box before threading a pass to Marc Guehi, who finished like a striker to make it 2-0.
Chelsea were reeling, and the third came when Moises Caicedo's loose touch let Jeremy Doku nip in and poke the ball home. By then the game was done, and the Stamford Bridge crowd was streaming for the exits.
Guehi commands both ends of the pitch
Marc Guehi had one of those complete performances that defenders dream about. He completed 101 of 102 passes, made three tackles, three interceptions, two blocks and a clearance, all while popping up to score his goal. It was a display that made the January transfer fee look like a bargain.
Title race heading for the Etihad
City's 64 points leave them six behind Arsenal, who lost 2-1 at home to Bournemouth on Saturday. More importantly, Guardiola's side still have a game in hand, meaning the gap could be down to three before Arsenal next play. The two sides meet at the Etihad on April 19 in what now looks like the defining fixture of the season.
For Chelsea and Liam Rosenior, it was a sobering afternoon. The Blues remain sixth on 48 points and badly needed something from this game to keep their top-four push alive.
