Punjab Kings have won two of their three matches so far in IPL 2026 and sit second in the standings with five points. Shreyas Iyer's side saw debutant Cooper Connolly smash an unbeaten 72 to beat Gujarat Titans in their opener, and then Iyer led from the front with a captain's half-century as Punjab chased down 210 at Chepauk to beat CSK. They are playing with the same confidence that carried them to last season's final.

SRH looking to stop the slide

Sunrisers Hyderabad come into this fixture in far less comfortable shape. They have one win from three matches and sit sixth in the table with just two points. Their most recent outing saw the middle order buckle against Lucknow Super Giants, collapsing to 156 for 9 and losing by five wickets. The absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, still recovering from a back injury, has left interim skipper Ishan Kishan with a lot on his plate.

Heinrich Klaasen remains the biggest threat in SRH's batting lineup. He has been the standout performer in Hyderabad's first three matches, and when he gets going, the total rarely matters. The problem for Hyderabad has been the lack of support around him. Abhishek Sharma showed glimpses of form in pre-season but has not yet delivered a match-winning knock this campaign.

Pitch and conditions

The surface at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium has offered something for everyone this season. Seamers tend to get early movement before the pitch flattens out and favours batters through the middle overs. Afternoon start times bring extra heat and potentially slow the outfield, which could affect totals. Punjab's spinners might also get some grip as the match wears on.

What to watch for

Iyer's home record is the one question mark hanging over Punjab. Despite leading the team to last year's final, he managed just 25 runs in four home innings during IPL 2025, a stark contrast to 577 away from Mullanpur. He has spoken openly about wanting to put that right this season. A big score on home turf would silence the doubters and keep Punjab rolling.

SRH need Kishan to lead from the front if they are to turn their campaign around. A third defeat in four matches would leave them scrambling for playoff contention before the tournament has even reached its halfway point.
