Philip Salt and Devdutt Padikkal gave the defending champions a brisk start in Bengaluru. Salt struck 46 off 30 balls before falling, and Padikkal went on to reach his fifty off 29 deliveries. The platform was solid. What followed was something else entirely.

Tim David walked in and made the CSK bowling attack look helpless. He raced to his fifty in 21 balls, clobbering three consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad in the 17th over to signal what was coming. By the time he was done, David had 70 off 25 balls, three fours and eight sixes, striking at 280.

Overton's over from hell

The 19th over will give Jamie Overton nightmares. David smashed the seamer for 30 runs, clearing the boundary four times. One of his sixes sailed clean out of the Chinnaswamy and toward Cubbon Park. The crowd roared with every blow.

Captain Rajat Patidar matched David's aggression at the other end, hammering 48 off just 19 balls as the pair put on an unbeaten 99 off 35 deliveries. Ninety-seven runs came from the last five overs as RCB surged to 250 for 3, the highest total in IPL 2026 so far.

CSK crumble in the chase

Chasing a mountainous 251, CSK were in trouble from the start. Jacob Duffy removed both openers early, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson cheaply, the latter managing just nine for the third underwhelming score in as many innings since his big-money move from Rajasthan Royals.

Sarfaraz Khan played the best hand of the reply with a fighting 50, and Prashant Veer chipped in with 43. But the required rate was always climbing and wickets continued to tumble.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar led RCB's bowling effort with three wickets. His dismissal of Ayush Mhatre took him to 200 IPL wickets, making him the first fast bowler to reach that milestone. Only Yuzvendra Chahal, with 224, has more in the tournament's history.

CSK were bowled out for 207, losing by 43 runs. It is their third straight defeat in IPL 2026 and they sit at the bottom of the table with mounting questions about both their batting lineup and their bowling.
