Gill and Buttler fifties power Gujarat Titans to comprehensive win over LSG in Lucknow

Gujarat Titans produced their most complete performance of IPL 2026 on Sunday, chasing down 165 with seven wickets in hand to beat Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. Shubman Gill anchored the chase with 56 off 40 balls while Jos Buttler went after the bowling from the start, smashing 60 off 37. It was only GT's second win of the tournament, but it could hardly have been more convincing.
Prasidh Krishna sets the tone with career-best spell
The result was built on Prasidh Krishna's fiery four-over spell. The right-armer returned career-best IPL figures of 4/28, ripping through LSG's middle order after Aiden Markram had given the hosts a platform with a steady 30 at the top. Ayush Badoni fell for 9, Nicholas Pooran for 19 and Mukul Choudhary for 18, all to Krishna, who became the first bowler to reach 10 wickets in IPL 2026.
Rishabh Pant contributed a quick 18 off 11 balls but could not kick on, dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. A late flurry from George Linde (16 off 10) gave the total some respectability, but 164/8 always looked light on a good batting surface.
Gill and Buttler take the chase away from LSG
Gill and Sai Sudharsan opened the reply, but Sudharsan fell early when he miscued a sweep off Digvesh Rathi to short fine leg. That brought Buttler to the crease, and he wasted no time. The Englishman cracked boundaries through the off side and cleared the ropes with ease, racing past fifty before Gill had even reached 40.
Gill played the anchor role, rotating strike and picking off the bad ball. His fifty came off 34 deliveries and gave GT the platform to cruise. The pair put on a stand that took the game well beyond LSG's reach before both fell in quick succession to Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav. By then, the hard work was done. Washington Sundar (21 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (10 not out) knocked off the remaining runs in the 19th over without any alarms.
What it means for both sides
For Gujarat Titans, this was a badly needed win that lifts them to fifth in the standings. After losing their first two matches and scraping past Delhi Capitals by a single run, they had looked like a side still searching for rhythm. This was different. Krishna's hostility with the ball, Gill's composure at the top and Buttler's aggression through the middle overs gave them a blueprint for how to win games in this tournament.
LSG will be frustrated. They had won both their previous matches, beating SRH and KKR, and arrived in good form. But 164 was never enough against a batting lineup this deep, and their bowlers found no way to slow the run chase once Buttler got going.
