Brentford host bottom-of-the-table Wolves in Monday night Premier League clash

Seventh-placed Brentford welcome rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Gtech Community Stadium on Monday evening, with both sides playing for very different stakes in the Premier League.

Monday's only Premier League fixture pits Brentford against Wolves at the Gtech Community Stadium, with kick-off at 8pm GMT. It is a game that neatly captures the gulf between the top half and the bottom of this season's table.

Brentford chasing European places

Keith Andrews' side sit seventh on 44 points from 29 games, four behind sixth-placed Chelsea. The Bees were held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth in their last league outing, but their home form has been strong throughout the campaign.

Brentford's attacking output has been consistent, averaging 1.6 goals per game, with Igor Thiago leading the scoring charts on 18 for the season. Their one concern is at the back, where they have conceded in seven of their last ten league fixtures.

Wolves running out of time

At the other end of the table, Wolves look all but doomed. Rob Edwards' side are bottom on 16 points, 13 adrift of safety with just eight games left. They have not won an away league game all season in 14 attempts and have managed just 22 goals from 30 matches, the fewest in the division.

Their recent 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Liverpool did nothing to lift the mood, and injuries continue to bite. Jose Sa is doubtful, and Enso Gonzalez is expected to miss out entirely.

What is at stake

For Brentford, three points would keep the pressure on those above them and strengthen their case for a European adventure. For Wolves, anything other than a win moves them closer to the mathematical certainty of relegation. The two sides last met at Molineux earlier in the season, where Brentford won 2-0. Their previous meeting at the Gtech was a wild 5-3 affair in Brentford's favour.

On paper, this looks like a home banker. But Monday night football has a habit of throwing up surprises, and Wolves have nothing to lose.
