Bangladesh crush Pakistan by 8 wickets in Dhaka as Nahid Rana runs riot

Bangladesh delivered a ruthless performance at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday, demolishing Pakistan by 8 wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The hosts were clinical in every department, first bowling Pakistan out for a paltry 114 before chasing down the target in just 15.1 overs.
Nahid Rana Tears Through Pakistan's Batting
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz called it right at the toss and elected to bowl. What followed was carnage with the new ball. Nahid Rana was virtually unplayable, extracting sharp bounce and movement to finish with stunning figures of 5 for 24 from 7 overs. Pakistan's batters had no answers.
Wickets fell at regular intervals. No partnership lasted long enough to shift momentum. Farhan scored with a gritty 27 off 38 balls, but he found little support from the other end. Maaz Sadaqat contributed 18 off 28, and Mohammad Rizwan could only manage 10 off 20 before falling to the relentless Bangladesh attack.
Miraz himself was excellent with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 29 runs. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with a wicket apiece. Pakistan's innings folded in 30.4 overs. A total of 114 was never going to test a confident Bangladesh side batting at home.
Tamim Blitz Seals the Deal
If the bowling was clinical, the chase was explosive. Tanzid Hasan Tamim came out swinging from ball one and never looked back. He smashed 67 not out off just 42 deliveries, peppering the boundary with 7 fours and launching 5 sixes into the Dhaka night sky.
Bangladesh lost an early wicket, but it hardly mattered. Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto stitched together a commanding 82-run stand for the second wicket that sucked any remaining life out of the contest. Shanto played his role perfectly, anchoring the innings with a composed 27 off 33 balls while Tamim blazed away at the other end.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim claimed one scalp each, but those were consolation wickets at best. The game was already done.
Pakistan Face Tough Questions Ahead of 2nd ODI
This was a thorough beating. Pakistan's batting collapse exposed familiar frailties, and their bowlers barely had runs to defend. Getting bundled out for 114 on a surface that offered assistance but was by no means a minefield raises serious concerns about their approach and shot selection.
For Bangladesh, everything clicked. The bowlers set the tone, the fielders held their catches, and the batters finished the job with authority. Miraz will be delighted with how his team executed the game plan from the first over to the last.
The second ODI promises to be a high-stakes affair. Pakistan cannot afford another collapse if they want to stay alive in this series. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will look to maintain the intensity and seal a series win.
