Australia celebrate winning the Perth pink-ball Test

Australia completed a crushing 10-wicket victory over India in the one-off women's pink-ball Test at the WACA Ground in Perth on Sunday, wrapping up the match inside three days.

India, who resumed Day 3 at 105 for 6 in their second innings and still trailing by 20 runs, could manage only 44 more before being bowled out for 149. Pratika Rawal top-scored with 63, but once she fell the tail offered little resistance. Australia knocked off the required 25 runs without losing a wicket to seal the win in the evening session.

Sutherland's all-round masterclass

The result was built on Annabel Sutherland's extraordinary all-round display. The 24-year-old scored 129 off 171 balls in Australia's first innings, cracking 17 fours along the way, after walking in at 58 for 3 and putting on 128 for the fourth wicket with Ellyse Perry, who made 76.

With the ball, Sutherland was equally destructive. She claimed 4 for 46 in India's first innings and two more in the second to finish with six wickets for the match. It was her third consecutive Test century and fourth overall, earning her the Player of the Match award.

Hamilton shines on debut

Debutant Lucy Hamilton, a 19-year-old left-arm seamer, set the tone on the opening day with 3 for 31 in India's first innings. She bowled Smriti Mandhana for 4 in her third over, then returned later to dismiss Jemimah Rodrigues for 52 and Sneh Rana for 5.

India were dismissed for 198 in their first innings, with Rodrigues the only batter to pass 50. The deficit of 125 proved far too large to overcome, despite Rawal's gritty resistance in the second dig.

Healy goes out on top

The match doubled as the final international appearance for Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who was chaired off the ground by teammates after the victory. The wicketkeeper-batter, who turns 36 later this month, announced her retirement in January and leaves the game with close to 300 international caps across all three formats.

India's winless record in Tests on Australian soil continues. Their only Test victory over Australia came at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in December 2023.
